Exclusive Updates For Our Most Impactful Advocates
This month, we’re taking you from the remote corners of Alaska to the fire-ravaged hills of Los Angeles, and even across the globe to war-torn Ukraine. Wherever animals and communities are in crisis, your support is there—offering hope, healing, and lifesaving care.
In this issue, you’ll read about a dedicated pet owner who drove for hours to get her dog the care she needed, a street dog named Fendi who finally got her second chance, and courageous pets like Zhuchok and Folti who are surviving the unimaginable. You’ll also get a glimpse at what’s happening on the ground right now in Austin, where our team is once again providing free veterinary care to those who need it most.
You make all of this, and so much more, possible. Thank you for being a vital part of this work.
THE GOOD YOU MADE POSSIBLE
Spay/Neuter in the Land of the Midnight Sun
Greater Good Charities' veterinary team recently completed their fifth round of free sterilization clinics in Alaska, safely spaying and neutering nearly 700 owned pets from the Kenai Peninsula area.
Veterinary care in this remote area can be difficult to access and cost prohibitive. One pet owner told us she drove several hours to our clinic to get her pup spayed.
The cost of surgery in her area was too high, but her dog desperately needed it since she had terrible pain and wouldn’t eat. “It's such a relief to know my pup won’t have to face any more painful heats and no more worries of whoopsie pregnancy!”
By bringing free high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter services directly to these communities, along with vaccinations, education and more, your support is improving the welfare and outlook of people and pets alike.
Los Angeles Wildlife Relief: A Flight for Fendi
We're still working to support Los Angeles in the wake of the devastating wildfires, this time by taking to the skies. Recently, we flew 132 shelter pets like Fendi from southern California to the Pacific Northwest, giving them a better chance at adoption and easing pressure on local animal welfare organizations.
Sweet Fendi was found roaming the streets of Compton and was brought to the shelter. She faced health challenges during her stay which kept her tucked away from potential adopters.
Thanks to your support, all the incredible work we’ve been able to do as one of the first international response organizations on the ground when the LA wildfires began—including this pet transport—is saving lives and helping heal communities.
Zhuchok, Folti and the Animals of Ukraine
Pictured below, on the left is Zhuchok, a 10-year-old dog who was wounded in the neck by shrapnel in eastern Ukraine. Rescuers brought Zhuchok to our partners at Animal Rescue Kharkiv, where he was stabilized and is now undergoing treatment.
On the right, meet Folti, another brave soul who’s been with Safi Cat Sanctuary for several years after surviving an arrow injury that left her disabled. Despite everything, she has an incredible will to live—and a big appetite to match!
Zhuchok and Folti are recovering and looking to brighter futures thanks to food and supply donations from Greater Good Charities. Pets like them in Ukraine still need our support, and through your generosity, we continue to work with partners on the ground to help as many as possible.
