In 2005, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina’s devastation, the Rescue Bank program was formed to provide critically needed food to rescue groups that were overwhelmed by an influx of displaced pets. Since then, the program expanded nationally—delivering over 450 million meals to date to thousands of shelters and rescues across the country. We’ve continued to respond to human-made and natural disasters, filling urgent needs, and supporting pets and the people who care for them.
And since 2005, we’ve built on that foundation to increase impact and have begun delivering more than just food; pet supplies and humanitarian aid have become an ever-increasing part of our donation efforts.
At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, we saw food insecurity and poverty for people and pets rise, an increase in domestic violence incidents, and the need for new types of relief. In addition to pet food, we delivered masks, medical supplies, humanitarian meals, Good Packs, and more. And now, with our response to the tragic Ukraine crisis, we are delivering humanitarian and pet supplies to refugee centers, animal shelters, and food banks.
The need has changed, and with it, our efforts have changed. Today, I’m proud to announce the Rescue Bank program will now be Greater Good Charities’ GOODS Program.
The GOODS Program will address the increased need for food and essential supplies across the globe for people and pets alike.
Our commitment to feeding homeless pets in need has never been stronger. In fact, our expanded program will reach more pets than ever, utilizing a larger Ambassador distribution network, helping more communities that need it most. And now, GOODS will also help families and their pets facing economic hardships, people experiencing homelessness, veterans, domestic violence survivors, and victims of disaster throughout the world.
