Every child deserves the chance to learn.

But too often, barriers like poverty, hunger, unsafe buildings, or even lack of school supplies stand in the way. Greater Good Charities removes those barriers—so children everywhere can learn, dream, and build a brighter future.

Across the globe, millions of children are denied access to school.

Girls are disproportionately affected: more than 130 million girls are currently out of school due to poverty, child marriage, violence, or cultural barriers. But the truth is: many solutions are surprisingly simple. Sometimes it’s a bus ride. Sometimes it’s a uniform. Sometimes it’s rebuilding the only school in town.

Whatever the barrier—big or small—we step in to remove it.

Impact Highlights

$52,000 in scholarships to 324 girls in 17 countries.

3.5 million books distributed to children

1 million meals delivered Burmese refugee children in Thailand

Provided egg-laying hens to 151 girls in Haiti

We listen first.

Every response starts with communities telling us what they need.

In 2009, after attacks on female students in Afghanistan, the greatest barrier to school wasn’t access—it was safety. We supplied buses so girls could get to school without fear. By 2018, more than 150 girls rode those buses every year.

“Education is like a light. You can see the path you are going on in the dark.” – Sadia, Mirwais Mena Student

We respond holistically.

Learning doesn’t happen on an empty stomach. That’s why we integrate nutrition into our education work.

In rural Haiti, our hens program provided eggs directly to students, protein-rich meals that fueled their bodies and sharpened their focus to learn.

We stay until the job is done.

Sometimes, the barrier is infrastructure. On Haiti’s La Gonâve island, college wasn’t an option for children because no complete secondary school existed. We funded the first-ever complete secondary school, including teachers, classrooms, and supplies.

In 2018, the first 13th-grade class graduated. 92% passed Haiti’s baccalauréat exam. In comparison, the national average was 37%.

“I feel very proud to be graduating from MCLC, where I started my schooling in kindergarten. Education can change people’s lives, and education is the basis of development…. I don’t despair because I have a dream to accomplish great things.”

We leave lasting skills behind.

Education isn’t just for children—it’s for entire communities. We provide training, resources, and ongoing support so that after we leave, communities have the knowledge and tools to reach their full potential.
